Driving licence: Eligibility Details

  • Age Requirement:
    • 18 years for geared two-wheelers and Light Motor Vehicles (cars)
    • 16 years for gearless two-wheelers (below 50cc) with parental/guardian consent
    • 20 years for commercial/heavy motor vehicles
  • Learner’s Licence: Applicants must first obtain a Learner Driving Licence. A permanent Driving Licence can be applied for after 30 days and within 180 days from the date of issue of the Learner Licence.
  • Medical Fitness: A medical certificate is mandatory for commercial vehicle applicants. Some age groups may also be required to submit a fitness certificate.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Rules: Applicants must have basic knowledge of traffic signs, signals, and road safety rules.
  • Residency: The applicant should be a resident of Uttar Pradesh or provide valid local address proof.
